Activated charcoal
Activated charcoal absorbs alcohol in your stomach, so that your body doesn’t have too. It’s one form of treatment for alcohol poisoning and can help recovery from a hangover.
Blood alcohol content chart
Blood alcohol content allows us to measure someone’s alcohol intoxication. It’s a measure of the amount of alcohol in the blood, relative to the blood. It is in effect the percentage of alcohol in someone’s blood, for example, 0.05 is 0.05% of alcohol in someone’s blood.
It varies for people according to weight, here’s a chart to assist you in determining how much blood alcohol you have:
Consider one drink to be, according to the CDC:
| Standard drink chart (US) | |||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alcohol | Amount (ml) | Amount (fl oz) | Serving size | Alcohol (% by vol.) | Alcohol |
| 80 proof liquor | 44 | 1.5 | One shot | 40 | 0.6 US fl oz (18 ml) |
| Table wine | 148 | 5 | One glass | 12 | 0.6 US fl oz (18 ml) |
| Beer | 355 | 12 | One can | 5 | 0.6 US fl oz (18 ml) |
| Male Female |
Approximate blood alcohol percentage (by vol.) One drink has 0.5 US fl oz (15 ml) alcohol by volume |

(Based on Virginia Tech’s student BAC estimation chart )
Alcohol concentration and how long it stays in your system.
Alcohol has an effect on the human body, notably on the brain. The significance of that effect can be calculated by measuring a person’s blood alcohol content, or BAC.
BAC refers to the amount of alcohol in somebody’s entire bloodstream. When we want to know our BAC, we want to know what percentage of our bloodstream is alcohol, for example a BAC of 0.1% means one part alcohol for every thousand parts blood.
Alcohol’s effects on a person varies depending on that person’s tolerance to alcohol, and on their current BAC. Tolerance to alcohol does not change a person’s BAC, it just changes the effect drinking alcohol has on that person.
The following basic scale can help you determine the state of insobriety of a person depending on their BAC, and grossly on their tolerance.
| 0.02 | People with low tolerance will begin to feel some effects. |
| 0.04 | Most people will start feeling slight euphoria. |
| 0.06 | Ability to make decisions has been harmed, judgement is impaired. |
| 0.08 | Judgement and coordination are definitely impaired at this level. Most states define this as the legal limit for driving. |
| 0.10 | Control and reaction time are deteriorated, all states and provinces consider this as legally impaired, driving is illegal. |
| 0.12 | Vision becomes blurry, and vomiting can occur. May also have trouble sensing things (hearing, feeling, tasting …) |
| 0.15 | Balance and movement are impaired. Becomes sleepy. (Alcohol poisoning) |
| 0.30 | May relapse in and out of consciousness, and not feel pain as readily as sober people. (Alcohol poisoning) |
| 0.40 | Some people may barely be able to move at all, lose consciousness, and they may die. Reflexes are slowed down, such as pupil dilation. Heart rate slows down considerably. (Alcohol poisoning) |
| 0.45 | This is the fatal level for most people, breathing stops and death ensues. (Alcohol poisoning) |
Examples of Blood Alcohol Levels in males (160 pds) and females (140 pds). After 3 hours of drinking (1 drink = 12 oz. of beer):
Female: 4 drinks = BAC .08
Male: 5 drinks = BAC .076
IF YOU DRINK, DRINK IN MODERATION
CONSIDER: ONE DRINK PER HOUR
